Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 209
Tonikaku Kawaii Fly Me to the Moon 209
トニカクカワイイ 209
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:
Tsukasa wakes crying from a memory dream of her unknown friend (the emperor) from when she was human. After getting up, Tsukasa reflects on how little she recalls of her life before taking the elixir, yet she remembers clearly everything that happened afterward, despite the years. As Tsukasa remembers the man and his love again, she starts crying again.
Nasa finds Tsukasa crying. She tells him that she feels she’s seen him before, as in 1400 years in the past. She informs him that she’s okay. However, she insists that he spoil her. As such, Nasa invites his wife to get some ice cream, and she agrees.
The two get their ice cream and enjoy it in a park, where they watch the ducks in the water. Tsukasa asks if there’s any place they should go now that summer is ending and Nasa has his license. Nasa mentions the beach or the pool, but then says not going is a good thing as he doesn’t want others seeing Tsukasa in a swimsuit.
Tsukasa teases him about this, then suggests they go and buy a swimsuit for his eyes only.
Thoughts/Review:
While Hata-sensei got his gags into Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 209, it ended up a rather poignant chapter.
Remembering the Emperor
We didn’t get to see a lot of Tsukasa’s mysterious friend from 1400 years ago (the emperor), but his presence was heavily felt in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 209. I suppose that because her memories with the emperor were right before she transformed, Tsukasa is still able to remember him. She doesn’t know it was the emperor, thus she doesn’t know that he wanted to marry Kaguya. And Tsukasa doesn’t know her friend’s tragic end.
One thing the chapter confirmed is that Tsukasa’s head band is in fact the one the emperor gave her 1400 years ago. I’m not sure how it has survived all this time, other than it soaked in Tsukasa’s blood and thus may regenerate as well. Still, the fact that Tsukasa keeps it as a treasured item says something. The emperor really meant a lot to her.
Another element of the emperor’s presence in the story came from Tsukasa seeing him in Nasa. While I do believe that Nasa is a reincarnation character, would it be the emperor? Maybe Nasa descends from the imperial line somehow and thus Tsukasa sees a resemblance, both in features and in nature. And those elements drew her to Nasa.
But if Nasa is the reincarnation of the emperor, then what about poor Kaguya?
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 209 was a poignant chapter where Tsukasa remembers her friend of old. Of course we can’t keep things too serious, so it is punctuated with some comedy regarding Nasa’s attitude toward other men seeing his wife in a swimsuit. But all in all, this was a good chapter to read.
